SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS

IMG_5039.jpeg

My one-month stay in Kendari, Indonesia, was truly a memorable experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to observe, assist, and teach in my practicum school, which is the SD Katolik Pelangi. I learned a lot through the process and gained new knowledge, skills, and experiences that I will share in my country.

SD Katolik Pelangi is a private Catholic school that welcomes students of different religions, such as Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, and Konghucu. Although the school is going through renovation, they still provide sufficient facilities to support the students' learning journey. The classrooms are equipped with whiteboards, tables and chairs, big electric fans for enough ventilation, and also a projector to help teachers with their discussions. This school does not only focus on the academic aspect of the students but also develops the different skills that cultivate the multiple intelligences within the students.

When it comes to the curriculum, they use the Merdeka Curriculum, which uses project-based learning to strengthen the achievement of the Pancasila student profile. The project is not directed to achieve certain learning achievement targets, so it is not tied to subject content.

Going forth with the suggestions for SD Katolik Pelangi, I would like to raise the suggestion when it comes to teaching materials. I observed that the school has adequate technological materials, like a laptop and projector. With this, I would like to suggest that teachers should use technology-based teaching and learning materials. Teachers can create various PowerPoint presentations that are interactive as their teaching materials, and this strategy can boost the motivation of the students to learn.

Overall, it is truly an honor to experience observation, assistantship, and teaching practice in the SD Katolik Pelangi. I gained a new set of skills and knowledge that I can apply when I become an educator someday. I am grateful for the SEATeacher Exchange Student Program for giving me this wonderful opportunity to experience and learn so much about the educational system in an international country. This will help me build myself into a competent teacher for my future students.
